GlaxoSmithKline's new Ventolin MD, a generic equivalent of Ventolin, is expected to make more than $3 billion by 2017, but the U. S. health care system will also suffer. The inhaler will not replace inhalers that carry a generic version of the drug, Ventolin, which is not used in the U.
GlaxoSmithKline has launched its new Ventolin MD, a generic equivalent of the popular Asthma treatment Advair Diskus, which is the company's first product to treat patients with asthma. The inhaler will cost $9.99, or $0.75 per dose, instead of the $1.85 per dose a year ago. The Asthma inhaler, which is a refill, will cost about $6.99 a month.
GSK's Ventolin MD will cost $1.85 a month instead of $1.35 a month, while Advair Diskus, which is the generic version of the drug, is $0.75 a month. It will make it available only by prescription, but not through insurance, so it can be obtained without a prescription.
The new Ventolin MD is the first generic version of Asthma inhalers that are used in the U. to treat patients with asthma. The inhaler is available as a refill only inhaler, and the Ventolin MD will cost $9.99 a month instead of $8.99 a year.
Patients can now choose from a variety of inhalers that contain different versions of the drug, including one that is as effective as Advair Diskus.
